Friday Reads

Welcome to another Friday my friends. Let’s chat about what I’m reading.

friday reads

My reading is crazy at the moment. I found myself in this very random mood to download some very random audiobooks via Audible Escape, and let’s just say I am currently reading from the heroine, Emily, in Claimed by the Elven King..and am strangely turned on a bit. This fantasy erotic romance is taking me quite by surprise.

elven

Once finished with Claimed by the Elven King, I am going to start Swept Away by Kamery Solomon which a time travel romance I have been so excited to get my hands on. I have both the ebook and audiobook downloaded and am so antsy to dive into this story. There is this show called The Curse of Oak Island that comes on the History Channel and from the sounds of it, this story gives me vibes that if not the same thing, the historical aspects have something to do with the same history as that. Honestly, I was sold at: time travel and pirates.

I would also really like to read The Shifter Romances the Writer by Kristen Painter. I have a vlog coming to my youtube channel on Sunday where I read a novella in her Nocturne Falls series. After finishing the novella I became very interested in reading other books in the series, so I picked this one up.

Those are the reads I really hope to get to this weekend. Let me know what you plan to read, and if you have any recommendations for me.

We will chat again soon. Until next time, take care of yourselves.

Reigning Magicks by Candace Osmond & JJ King

“magic is neither black nor white, but full of color and purpose. It is up to use that purpose wisely.”

Reigning Magicks

by Candace Osmond & JJ King

Book 1 in the Witch In Time series

Goodreads Rating: 4.73 Stars

My Rating: 5/5 Stars

Plot:

She’ll Reign Over His Heart…In This Time or Another
After decades of war, two hostile druid factions come close to a peace treaty that could save hundreds of lives. All they need is the hand of Princess Ashlynn to seal the deal, but the stubborn and powerful daughter of Clann Kavanagh’s High Priestess will have nothing of it.

Desperate to change her fate, Ashlynn ventures into the forbidden forest in search of an ancient spell. When the old magic goes awry, the princess finds herself thrown into the future and stranded in an unknown land.

With the help of a handsome and powerful Romani sorcerer, Ashlynn searches for answers and a way home even though every moment spent at Cian’s side makes Ashlynn less certain of her desires.

Now she must decide if the past is worth changing or if their future is worth fighting for.

My Review:

My fingers will remain crossed that we see a resurgence of time travel romances. There is something very unique and comforting about them, especially ones very well written. A good time travel romance has the ability to have you hooked from page until the very last word of the book and that was the case with Reigning Magicks.

I had never read anything by JJ King but I have read another time travel fantasy romance by Candace Osmond before. In Reigning Magicks, the story kicks off with Ashlynn being highly upset that she is being married off to basically unite her familial clan with their rival clan. Ashlynn doesn’t want to marry someone she doesn’t love. You can tell she doesn’t even like the guy. So she sneaks off into the wood searching for the local seer, to see if she can help her. She finds the seer and is given this stone and basically told to go home, perform this specific ritual and she will be granted a wish. Ashlynn does all this and wishes that clans be united but not at the expense of her being married to someone she doesn’t want to be with. Next thing we know, she’s thrust over 300 years into the future.

I like the different spin the authors used for Ashlynn’s story. Typically with time travel stories, your main character travels backward in time. It was interesting to see this princess from the past, thrown into modern day and how much like a fish out of water she is but to also see her fall in love with modern conveniences.

magicks

It doesn’t take long though for the thought of should Ashlynn return to the past and make things right start flowing through her mind. The authors wrote some pretty interesting twists into the story that I didn’t see coming, and I always love a good familial twist.

Reigning Magicks is a fast paced, short romance full of magic bursting at the seams. It will feel perfect as a fall read, and I highly recommend it. The second book is already out and the third book is scheduled to release on HALLOWEEN 2019 which feels like perfect timing.

Fantasy Romance by Grace Draven

Hello Friends! I recently became aware of the author, Grace Draven. I remember seeing one of her covers and immediately going on Goodreads to see what else she has out there. I read through a few of the synopsis and immediately knew I needed to get lost in her worlds of fantasy and romance. Three clicks later, and I have hauled three titles by her.

First I hauled Radiance which is book one in the Wraith Kings series.  I am finding myself interested in the “forced together for political reasons,” trope. I really want to explore it more and see how the relationship between the two main characters turns out.

Plot Summary:

THE PRINCE OF NO VALUE

Brishen Khaskem, prince of the Kai, has lived content as the nonessential spare heir to a throne secured many times over. A trade and political alliance between the human kingdom of Gaur and the Kai kingdom of Bast-Haradis requires that he marry a Gauri woman to seal the treaty. Always a dutiful son, Brishen agrees to the marriage and discovers his bride is as ugly as he expected and more beautiful than he could have imagined.

THE NOBLEWOMAN OF NO IMPORTANCE

Ildiko, niece of the Gauri king, has always known her only worth to the royal family lay in a strategic marriage. Resigned to her fate, she is horrified to learn that her intended groom isn’t just a foreign aristocrat but the younger prince of a people neither familiar nor human. Bound to her new husband, Ildiko will leave behind all she’s known to embrace a man shrouded in darkness but with a soul forged by light.

Two people brought together by the trappings of duty and politics will discover they are destined for each other, even as the powers of a hostile kingdom scheme to tear them apart.

I went ahead and hauled the second book, Eidolon, with the hopes that I love book one so much that I want to immediately jump into the story of book two.

Plot Summary:

In a bid for more power, the Shadow Queen of Haradis has unleashed a malignant force into the world. Her son Brishen, younger prince of the Kai royal house, suddenly finds himself ruler of a kingdom blighted by a diseased darkness and on the brink of war. His human wife Ildiko must decide if she will give up the man she loves in order to secure his throne.

Three enemy kingdoms must unite to save each other, and a one-eyed, reluctant king must raise an army of the dead to defeat an army of the damned.

A tale of alliance and sacrifice.

The last book by Grace Draven I hauled, I saw on Fangirl Musings YouTube channel. She did a review of it, which I will leave here. I loved her review so much, I knew I had to have this book and that is Entreat Me.

Plot Summary:

Afflicted by a centuries-old curse, a warlord slowly surrenders his humanity and descends toward madness. Ballard of Ketach Tor holds no hope of escaping his fate until his son returns home one day, accompanied by a woman of incomparable beauty. His family believes her arrival may herald Ballard’s salvation.

…until they confront her elder sister.

Determined to rescue her sibling from ruin, Louvaen Duenda pursues her to a decrepit castle and discovers a household imprisoned in time. Dark magic, threatening sorcerers, and a malevolent climbing rose with a thirst for blood won’t deter her, but a proud man disfigured by an undying hatred might. Louvaen must decide if loving him will ultimately save him or destroy him.

A tale of vengeance and devotion.

entreat me

All of Grace’s books have some really great reviews on Goodreads which excites me and some damn good sounding story lines. And do I need to talk about the covers? They are stunning. I know I am going to get lost in these and fall completely in love. I can’t wait to start them. I will keep you posted on my thoughts.

Do you have any fantasy romance recommendations for me?
